Daily Overreaction: Manning Coming to the Miami Dolphins a Sure Thing?

Erik FrenzJun 7, 2018

Depending on who you ask, there are varying degrees of certainty around Peyton Manning joining the Miami Dolphins, ranging from "they top the wish list" to "there isn't a shot he lands anywhere but Miami."

With a little less than a week until he officially becomes a free agent on March 8, we don't have to wait long to find out, but we're hitting the period of time where any news will be taken as big news.

Well, there's news.

Hearing from multiple sources that Peyton is in Florida and throwing much much better

— BobKravitz (@bkravitz) March 2, 2012"

This report was later confirmed by NFL Network's Albert Breer via Twitter. Kravitz later confirmed that the reports weren't coming from someone in the Peyton "camp."

Overreaction: This is it! Manning is joining the Dolphins!

Not so fast.

Let's not forget the previous reports that Peyton actually owns property in Miami (hat tip to James Walker of the AFC East blog), and is probably just down there because...well, it's probably a lot nicer there than it is in Indianapolis right now.

I mean, it is March in both Indy and Miami. So, in short, one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Sorry to pull a Leslie Nielsen on you, but there's nothing to see here...or is there?

Don't run away just yet. There is some news to be had here. The fact that Peyton Manning is reportedly throwing "much much better" should be good news to teams considering Manning as a free agent.

And yes, that includes Miami.

Even if Peyton Manning doesn't have 100 percent of the velocity he had before surgery, he'll still have a better deep ball than at least half of the current NFL starting quarterbacks.

So, it looks like Manning will be a sought-after free agent after all. Go figure.
