NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Need to Focus on Ramon Sessions, Not Dwight Howard

Eric BallJun 7, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to make a trade, but who’s it going to be?

All of the buzz engulfing the left coast currently revolves around Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. The undisputed best center in the league will make a huge impact wherever he goes.

The Lakers have one of the few assets that interest the Magic in Andrew Bynum. However, the Lakers are better off without him.

It’s time for Los Angeles to focus on a more realistic transaction. How about Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Ramon Sessions?

Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld is reporting that multiple teams are looking to land Sessions before the March 15 trade deadline:

"

Teams continue to express interest in Ramon Sessions. Many executives see him as a starting point guard. Cavs are weighing their options.

ESPN’s Ryan Corazza believes that a three-team deal under which Sessions ends up in LA is a distinct possibility:

"

Though, it's unlikely the young and rebuilding Cavs are particularly interested in 31-year-old Pau Gasol, whom the Lakers are reportedly dangling in trade talks.(And the Lakers would likely be looking for a few rotation players in return for Gasol.)

Still, it's possible a three- or multi-team deal could be structured so that Sessions comes to the Lakers and Gasol heads elsewhere.

"

Sessions has averaged 10.3 points, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in only 24.9 minutes per game this season on a Cavs squad with absolutely zero playmakers. The only other strong player is Kyrie Irving, who plays the same position. It’s time to move Sessions in exchange for young talent or draft picks.

It just so happens that the Lakers own two first-round picks that will both likely be toward the end of the first round. With the huge trade exception and two picks, Sessions is certainly worth the price, especially at the age of 25.

He would instantly solidify a point guard position that is currently in shambles for the Lakers. Derek Fisher and Steve Blake don’t even have strong numbers when you combine them, and it’s wearing down Kobe Bryant. Somebody needs to help him create shots for others.

Howard is a prima donna that doesn’t necessarily care about winning. He wants to be as famous as possible. He’s not worth a potential three month rental.

There are less risky options that can still make the Lakers a legit title contender. Sessions is the safest and most logical option.
