Rampage Jackson Pleads Guilty, Accepting Responsibility For His Actions
Life seems too short at times, and I find that I have not spent enough time writing about the causes I care about, such as child abuse, rape and domestic violence and too much time writing about my favorite sport and fighters.
However I read an article about Quinton Rampage Jackson today which appears here on Bleacher Report and was written by an author from Yard Barker whom I invited to write on this site, and that article is pure yellow journalism at its worst and bordering on slander.
Rampage did plead guilty to a felony charge which was a result of the unfortunate incident last year in which he evaded police in a chase resulting in hitting and damaging as many as four vehicles, but in which no one was hurt.
'Page was suffering from delirium because he had been fasting, drinking only high energy drinks and had thrown his electrolytes and metabolism out of whack, which precipitated his strange journey and ended with being apprehended by the police in Newport Beach with at least five felony charges filed in Orange County.
A devastating loss to Forrest Griffin and religious delussions were plaguing Rampage who attempted to both flee his demons and rescue a friend he felt was in danger during the incident.
After the incident much was made of a 39 year old pregnant woman losing her pregnancy weeks afterwards. The fact that she had been under observation by her obstetrician for a high risk pregnancy was largely ignored and some armchair geniuses with little to no obstetric experience stated that Rampage had "killed a fetus."
Not true at all.
Having been an OB RN for many years I tried to explain in an article here that it was most unlikely that Rampage was guilty of such a thing.
After all the woman was riding in a Cadilac Escalade and not a tin can or mini Cooper.
The car doubtlessly had protective devices such as airbags.
She was sideswiped and not T-boned or hit head-on at a high rate of speed.
Women with healthy pregnancies have survived and delivered healthy babies after accidents that were much worse.
When I heard that the father of the fetus, who had not thought enough of the potential child's well being to give the mother and child his name through wedlock, was actually talking of suing Mr. Jackson, I immediately was on board to be called as an expert witness.
Having done monitoring and education of couples with high risk pregnancies, I truly felt qualified and would have testified for free.
When I read Rear Naked's article today I was livid!
How dare he even bring up the death of the fetus!
The fetal death had already been deemed a natural occurrence not contributed to the accidental sideswipe in any way, shape, or form.
I have not heard if the father of the potential child married the mother to be; I would indeed be surprised to hear that he had, what with no big settlement in sight.
I was surprised to see that the fetal death had been attributed to an innocent man.
Shame on this supposed "journalist" for what ever prejudice caused him to bring the matter up when it was not mentioned in court or in the settlement!
That is totally unforgivable and irresponsible for a journalist to perpetuate such a myth!
So Rampage may have his record expunged after completing 200 hours of community service.
I hope his talks to youth about using proper nuitrition and getting enough sleep are recorded and available to teens in other states besides California.
With Rampage's charismatic personality and popularity after becoming a champion in the UFC, I am sure a message from him will hold more weight than the same message would from a parent, the President of the USA or the Surgeon General would.
Your fans are still behind you cheering for you Rampage.
I am proud of you for accepting responsibility for your actions, for paying for the cars damaged, and for the community service you will be doing in the future.
It is too bad that more people are not like you!
