WWE: Will Former WWE Champion Miz's Stock Continue to Fall?

Michael PrunkaJun 7, 2018

Less than a year ago, at WrestleMania 27, The Miz walked away from the "Showcase of Immortals" just as he entered it—WWE Champion. Miz seemingly solidified his spot atop the WWE by defeating John Cena in the main event. Instead, Miz has progressively dropped down the card to the point where he may not even have a match at this year's WrestleMania.

After losing the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules in May 2011, Miz still remained relevant. He had a brief feud with former protege Alex Riley, a high profile story involving his partnership with R-Truth, and the dissolution of the aforementioned alliance. Most recently, he contended for the WWE Championship at the TLC pay-per-view and made a spectacular run in the Royal Rumble.

A few weeks ago on Raw, R-Truth took a nasty fall when attempting a springboard splash. Miz was blamed for the accident because he was not in position to catch R-Truth. A few days after this incident, reports began to surface that this was just the latest reason why Miz had heat with the WWE management.

With WrestleMania season in full swing, nothing would illustrate Miz's crashing stock more than an insignificant role at the WWE's biggest show.

The aforementioned report claims that WWE officials feel as if "Miz has regressed, both in the ring and on the microphone." I would have agreed with that a few months ago. Around November or December, I would have agreed with the WWE's sentiments. Even as a fan it was apparent that the Miz had regressed.

However, as WrestleMania season began to pick up, so did Miz's performance. Not only did he shine in the Royal Rumble match, but he was also the last person eliminated in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber. Furthermore, his promos have been on par.

Miz recently recorded an intense promo and posted it on his Twitter. In this video, Miz claimed that he would be at WrestleMania 28 and would main event, whether or not that's what people would call it. This led to a wide range of speculations. Everything ranging from being involved in a World Championship match to interfering in The Rock vs. John Cena has been proposed.

So while "The Most Must-See Champion in History's" stock has taken a nosedive in the past year, it certainly would appear that he is finally on the upswing once again. As far as I can tell, Miz is once again at the top of his game with both his ring and mic work. Perhaps it has something to do with his heat with the WWE officials or the fact that it's WrestleMania season, but Miz is getting his edge back and appears to be as hungry as ever.

Miz's involvement in WrestleMania 28 has yet to be determined, but it definitely seems like he is putting himself in a position to make a significant impact on the show.
