Derrick Rose Is the New Hamburglar & Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow BFFs: BR5 3/1

BR5Mar 1, 2012

Welcome to BR5—your source for sports and pop culture news.

Today's episode of BR5 gets you up-to-date on everything from the Hamburglar to Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin's relationship.

Derrick Rose heartlessly steals food from starving fans, sort of. A promotion at the United Center promised all fans in attendance a free Big Mac if the Bulls scored at least a 100 points.

With Derrick Rose at the foul line with two shots and the Bulls stuck at 99 points, the burgers were as good as theirs, considering Rose's impressive 82-percent success from the charity stripe.

However, he bricked it—twice—sending all those fans home hungry. Rose apologized to the fans, but he ended up saving McDonald's about $87,000.

Renowned good guys Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow are reportedly in the early stages of a telephone friendship.

This is a potential endorsement gold mine for whichever cell provider carries their calls. It's not yet known what exactly the pair of goody-two-shoes discuss in their chats...but one can assume it's the finer points of helping old ladies cross the street, how to thank your teammates in press conferences and how to avoid advances from busty pop stars and reality TV harlots.

It's official, the United States is better than Italy. For the first time in American history, Italian history and the history of soccer, Team USA beat Italy.

It was not quite a thrashing. The U.S. took it 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal by Clint Dempsey, but a win is a win, and this one was on Italian soil.

The Pirates instituted a new ballpark promotion, Newborn Baby Day.  Well, not really, but a team executive helped deliver a baby at their spring training facility when a really pregnant fan went into labor.

Trevor Gooby, director of Florida Operations for the Buckos, helped birth the future Pirates fan right there by the front gate of McKechnie Field. The baby is a healthy boy who is already giving up hope on the Pirates.

J.J. Barea might have just completed the best year ever. Just ask Ralph Lawler.

After bouncing around the league for several years, Barea signed a big, fat contract to become a sharpshooter for the Dallas Mavericks. The year ended with Barea wearing an NBA championship ring on one hand and a wedding ring on the other.

See, not only did things go well on the court, but Barea also met, romanced and married former Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera in his free time. Not a bad year you say?

Downright unbelievable if you listen to Lawler, the longtime Clippers announcer, as he found out. You have to feel a little insulted when someone's that surprised you've got a hot wife.
