2012 NFL Draft: 3 Prospects to Keep an Eye on at Cincinnati's Pro Day

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

The Cincinnati Bearcats pro day is scheduled for March 2nd, and before the select group of prospects take the field, let's take a closer look at the three guys you must keep an eye on.

Derek Wolfe, DL

Wolfe isn't a huge name in the loaded defensive-line class, but he's a prospect that could sneak into the second or third round when all is said and done.

The Big East isn't necessarily a conference that manufactures tons of NFL stars, but it's worth nothing that Wolfe was named the Co-MVP of the league in 2011 after amassing 70 tackles and 9.5 sacks last season.

He's 6'5'' and 295 pounds, and ran a 4.94 in the 40 while putting up a solid 33 reps on the bench in Indianapolis.

Wolfe is an ideal 3-4 defensive end prospect at the next level. If he improves on his numbers, there's a great chance he's selected in the second or third round.

John Hughes, DL

At 6'2'' and 309 pounds, Hughes will likely man a defensive tackle position in the NFL next season. While he isn't as highly-touted as Wolfe, he does bring some positives to the field.

He had 12.5 tackles for loss and five sacks during the 2011 season, and is a mid-to-late-round prospect.

At the combine, he didn't run the 40-yard dash and put up 28 reps on the bench.

With a strong showing tomorrow, Hughes could be a development pick in somewhere between rounds five and seven.

Isaiah Pead, RB

Pead will be the headliner tomorrow in Cincinnati. He's one of the top running backs in his year's class and will be looking to improve his draft stock even more than he already has since the end of the football season.

He was the Senior Bowl MVP and displayed his tremendous return ability in front of many scouts in Mobile.

Pead bulked up to nearly 200 pounds by the combine, and ran a nice 4.41 in the 40-yard dash. If he clocks a better time in his pro day, expect him to be off the board by the start of the third round.

During the 2011 season, he averaged 5.3 yards per carry and scored 12 touchdowns for the Bearcats.
