Peyton Manning Rumors: Colts Legend More Valuable with Reggie Wayne

Peyton Manning remains the biggest Indianapolis Colts question mark as well as the biggest potential free agent in the sport. The fact that Reggie Wayne wants to follow the quarterback makes him a huge find for any organization. 

Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported the Colts star receiver may travel right behind famed quarterback Manning this spring. We still have no idea where Manning will end up, but patience is a virtue shared by Wayne.

King wrote: "The latest in the Peyton Manning story involves a Manning-Reggie Wayne reunion, which I'm told at least two potential suitor teams would seriously consider in an attempt to lure the rehabbing Manning..."

King then continued to give his assessment on which teams would get the most use out of a Manning and Wayne pairing. 

Please don't think this is all about Wayne getting some love at the moment. Pairing these two together makes Manning far more valuable to any team willing to grab him the moment the Colts hit the eject button. Manning is a creature of habit and has an amazing relationship with Wayne. There is no guarantee that Manning will be healthy by the start of the season. It is clearly an advantage to have a player he is comfortable with as soon as he hits the field.

Now for the teams that King loves in this dream package of free-agent signings. The SI writer likes Miami, with Wayne finding a niche among the offense, but this pales to how he would fit in with the Cardinals and the Redskins.

Cardinals

Manning to Larry Fitzgerald. Dreamy. Manning to Fitzgerald and Reggie Wayne. Dreamier.

The Cardinals may need to fill some holes before they can be considered Super Bowl contenders, but an offense with this experience and pedigree would be scary. 

Redskins

The 'Skins are crying out for a No. 1 receiver, with stopgap Jabar Gaffney and aging Santana Moss the two incumbents. Washington could use two receivers, not just one. Imagine the Redskins with Manning, Wayne and Mario Manningham next fall. Scary ... if Manning's healthy, of course.

This is of course what everything comes down to: Manning's health. 

It's one thing to day dream about the dynamic duo putting on different jerseys, but it means little if Manning is a shell of his former self. 

If he can rebound, Manning and Wayne have the veteran ability to fit in anywhere around the NFL.
