Vincent Jackson to Redskins: Washington Must Avoid Streaky WR

Richard LangfordJun 3, 2018

Vincent Jackson is not the answer to the Redskins' WR woes. He is an overrated and streaky wide receiver that is not going to be worth the lucrative contract he signs.

The Redskins must make sure that contract is not with them as they embark on their journey to upgrade their wide receiving corp.

Mark Maske of The Washington Post let the public in on the Redskins' offseason intentions.

The Washington Redskins are making plans to add a high-profile wide receiver in an NFL free agent market that has them in abundance, according to several people familiar with the team’s deliberations.

"

These comments had people instantly connecting the dots to Jackson. And they were probably already connecting those dots.

Maske commented on that as well: "Several people in the sport said a leading target for the Redskins could be San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson."

Redskins fans better hope their team does not feel the same way.

Why VJ is a Bad Idea for Washington

Jackson has been a phenomenally productive player. He has gone over 1,000 yards in three of his last four seasons. The only one he didn't was the 2010 season, where he missed the majority with holdout/suspension/injury issues.

However, he has always been a wildly inconsistent player. Last year, he had six games where he finished with fewer than 35 receiving yards.

But that isn't even the biggest red flag on Jackson. VJ is a 29-year-old receiver who has made his money by going deep. With a big contract and increasing age, that ability to go deep is going to rapidly diminish.

Jackson is going to want a long-term deal. It is going to be a disaster, and it's one the Redskins must avoid.
