Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Latest Updates for Orlando Magic Star

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Dwight Howard is, without a doubt, the best superstar player openly available to be acquired in a trade.

Which is why there have been a litany of trade rumors and speculation surrounding the Orlando Magic center ever since the lockout was lifted.

It seems every single day there is at least one new rumbling about an interested party attempting to package together a deal to haul in the reigning three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Keep it tuned here over the next two weeks, up until the March 15 deadline, as it will become your one-spot stop for Dwight Howard trade news and rumors.

Warriors

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury-News believes six things need to align in order for the Golden State Warriors to land Dwight Howard.

It starts with Orlando accepting the fact they will not re-sign him, then becoming intrigued by some Warriors players and not first-round picks (Golden State doesn’t have any in 2012). Next, other teams (Mavericks, Lakers, etc.) becoming disinterested in acquiring Howard before the deadline and finally, G-State would have to take back at least one bad contract from Orlando (Hedo Turkoglu).

It’s a long shot, but one that could certainly happen given how insane trade deadline deals have been in the past.

Warriors continuing push for Dwight Howard deal even without DH commitment to re-signing. Not backing off from risky move, source says.

Eric Pincus over at HoopsWorld believes the Nets are under extreme pressure to land Dwight Howard before March 15 or risk losing Deron Williams and rebuilding the franchise from the ground up once again in the offseason.

"

Multiple sources have linked Deron to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.  To open up enough cap space, Dallas would need to use their Amnesty Clause on a player like Brendan Haywood and let go of partially guaranteed players like Vince Carter and Lamar Odom.

"

The only way this likely doesn’t happen is if the soon-to-be Brooklyn team can land Dwight.

That would almost guarantee that Williams re-signs and the two start what could be the beginning of a dynasty in New York City.
