2012 NFL Free Agents: Eagles Must Avoid Plaxico Burress to Address Other Needs

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Nowhere on the offseason to-do list for the Philadelphia Eagles should it say, "add aging WR." Philadelphia must focus on getting better on the offensive line, at linebacker and at safety.

They have enough weapons on offense that they can divert their resources to other areas. That is not something Plaxico Burress will want to hear.

He apparently has a strong interest in joining the Eagles. The Eagles Insider relayed Burress' recent comments on his desire to land in Philly

Philadelphia is going to be just fine at the WR position without Burress. The rumor is that they will place the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson. That will leave them with a strong receiving trio of Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant.

Adding Burress is simply a luxury they can't afford. First and foremost, Philadelphia must improve their offensive line.

That needs to start with grabbing an offensive tackle. This team must ease the pressure that Michael Vick routinely faces when dropping back to pass.

After that, they must turn their focus onto the defense. This team is an enhanced linebacking corps and a safety away from being elite.

If the Eagles make those improvements, they have more than enough weapons at receiver to make a run at the Super Bowl.
