Dwight Howard's Best Possible Move Is to New Jersey Nets
Dwight Howard is not going to be a member of the Orlando Magic much longer, and when he decides to join a new team, the superstar center will find the New Jersey—soon to be Brooklyn—Nets to be his best option.
Here are the reasons why:
Salary
Money talks and according to Dave D’Alessandro of The Star Ledger, Dwight stands to cash the biggest paychecks if he heads to the Tri-State area.
They can start him off in the $18-19 million range with their current cap space, which is certainly going to be available in the offseason.
Best Team
If another team, such as the Dallas Mavericks or the Los Angeles Lakers, attempts to acquire the reigning three-time Defensive Player of the Year, they will find their rosters completely gutted and contain a bunch of minimum contracts surrounding two superstars.
The Nets have two first-round picks in the loaded 2012 draft along with Deron Williams(who would be stupid not to re-sign if Howard joins the club), Brook Lopez and blossoming talent in MarShon Brooks and Anthony Morrow.
It seems they have the brightest future if they can sign Howard in free agency.
That would certainly be the nucleus of a perennial championship contender.
Shoe Deal
Adidas gave Derrick Rose $185 million guaranteed with incentives that could push that up to $200-250 million. That’s more than double what the Chicago Bulls are paying him after his monster extension.
If you weren’t aware, Howard is also a member of Adidas and could be in line for a massive extension to his deal with the company if he stars to a major market like New York City.
I Conclude That ...
Dwight’s got a decision to make in the next few months, if the Magic brass doesn’t make it for him before the March 15 trade deadline.
Looking at how much money he stands to make and how many championship runs could be in the future, the Nets are the obvious choice for the big man.
