Lakers Trade Rumors: LA Would Be a Massive Winner in Rondo for Gasol Deal

Richard LangfordFeb 28, 2012

If the Los Angeles Lakers have a chance to swap Pau Gasol for Rajon Rondo they should take it as soon as possible and say thank you.

The Lakers are in desperate need for a point guard, and they already traded Gasol for PG Chris Paul until "basketball reasons" interfered.

Now they might have a chance to swap their 7-foot Spaniard for an elite PG again, at least if you believe Peter Vescey of The New York Post.

He shared the following rumor:

"

If the Lakers indeed are interested in signing Rasheed Wallace—a logical step-down from flirting with Gilbert Arenas—it lends credence to the Rajon Rondo/Jermaine O’Neal-Pau Gasol swap I keep hearing. Lord knows they’re desperate for a point guard and Rondo is exceedingly obtainable and Kobe Bryant loves his “any means possible” style.

"

Just because Vescey says he keeps hearing it that does not make it fact. If this is true, and the Celtics are willing, the Lakers need to jump all over this.

Why the Lakers Should Make This Trade

This would make the Lakers a much more complete team. This team desperately needs a point guard who can play defense, penetrate and isn't allergic to passing. That is exactly what Rondo is.

By sending Gasol away they would be eliminating their greatest strength, which is their size inside, but they are gaining enough to make up for that.

Rondo would make this team more complete on offense and defense. He would also make them noticeably younger in the process.
