NFL Combine 2012: Top Players That Solidified First-Round Draft Stock

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III had their chance to impress the masses yesterday, and they didn't disappoint.

The 2012 NFL Scouting Combine is almost over and with only the defensive backs still to workout, there is a good bit of shifting going on with draft boards already.

There was never a question of whether or not Luck and RG3 belonged in the first round, but now they've all but assured themselves back-to-back selections at Nos. 1 and 2.

On Monday, a few more players solidified their standing as first-round prospects and they were quite impressive.

Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

We know the BC linebacker is instinctive and productive, but just how good of an athlete is he? Kuechly put that question to bed by running sub-4.6 in the 40-yard dash and jumping 38" in the vertical.

He's not just a first-round pick, but a potential top-12er after this performance.

Kuechly's a day one starter and has the potential to be an elite player for a damn long time.

Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis

The big man from Memphis is the talk of the town in Indianapolis today. At 346 pounds, the massive nose tackle clocked a sub-5 40-yard dash and jumped a ridiculous 29.5" in the vertical.

He showcased tremendous athleticism throughout the day and practically brought Warren Sapp to tears.

There were question marks about if he'd crack the first round, but now those questions are simply how high will he go in the first round?

Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

Ingram was a close second behind Poe today in terms of excitement. The South Carolina pass-rusher not only solidified his place in the first round, but possibly earned himself a top-12 selection as well.

He showcased tremendous athleticism and blazed an unofficial 4.66 in the 40-yard dash to go along with his 34.5" vertical.

The Gamecock was agile in drills, showing the potential versatility that so many expect from him at the next level and may have even surpassed Courtney Upshaw as the top pass-rusher in this draft.
