NBA Rumors: Lakers Should Be Ashamed If Hawks Steal Ramon Sessions Away
The Los Angeles Lakers failed to address their weaknesses in the offseason, and they're paying for it headed into the second half of this season.
Their point guard and small forward situation is terrible, and they're coming off a 100-85 drubbing at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
One player available who could help the Lakers at the point guard position is the Cleveland Cavaliers' Ramon Sessions, who they've been rumored to be interested in. But, according to Bob Finnan of the News-Herald, there's a rumor going around that the Atlanta Hawks could land Sessions by offering Marvin Williams to the Cavaliers. Williams has stated that he wants to be traded.
If this happens, the Lakers should be ashamed. They've been linked to very few players this past year, and two of them include (gulp) Gilbert Arenas and Jonny Flynn. While Sessions isn't the defensive-minded point guard they would prefer, he's an upgrade over Derek Fisher and Steve Blake overall.
Once the Cavaliers drafted Kyrie Irving at No. 1 overall before the season, Sessions was expendable. But he handled starting duties well last season. In 38 starts, he averaged 14.5 points and 6.0 assists, showing value as a scorer and playmaker.
The Lakers are running out of options before the March 15 trade deadline. Right now, it appears the organization is floundering. But the Lakers have to make another go at the title before Kobe Bryant retires. Not doing so would be a slap in the face to Bryant and a disgrace overall.
If the Lakers don't land Sessions or Dwight Howard by the deadline, they more than likely simply don't care anymore.
