ACC Conference Releases 2012 Football Schedule
The Atlantic Coast Conference released its complete schedule for the 2012 college football season during an announcement from commissioner John Swofford on Monday.
Between conference and out-of-conference games, the entire schedule consists of 97 contests, including the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte, North Carolina on December 1st. 21 of the 48 non-conference games will be played against teams that participated in this past bowl season. In all, no ACC team will play fewer than five previously bowl-eligible opponents, with Boston College leading the pack with nine such instances.
Furthermore, 10 of those non-conference games will take place against teams expected to be ranked in the Top 25 at the start of the season.
Five of the ACC's games will be played on neutral sites. Aside from the conference title game, that list includes a meeting between Miami and Notre Dame at Soldier Field in Chicago on October 6th, a clash between Virginia Tech and Cincinnati at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland on September 29th, and two contests—NC State vs. Tennessee on August 31st and Clemson vs. Auburn on September 1st—in the Chick-fil-A Challenge at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The ACC will also stage four of its conference games in prime time on Thursday nights on ESPN.
