Racially Lin-Sensitive Ice Cream: BR5 2/27

BR5Jun 7, 2018

Welcome to BR5—your source for sports and pop culture news.

Today's episode of BR5 gets you up to date on everything from dunking over people to epic bowling celebrations.

Orlando is probably still recovering from the excitement and grandeur of the NBA All-Star Game and the dunk contest, as usual, had all the drama and suspense of—well, the last one.  The props were in full force on Saturday evening.

There's Derrick Williams using a motorcycle as a prop, Jeremy Evans using a tiny comedian dressed as a mailman as a prop and Chase Budinger using a rap mogul as a prop.  The NBA is clearly running out of ideas for the dunk competition, as it relies on gimmicks more and more.

While Jeremy Lin has cooled on the court, the Lin-sanity off the court has continued to affect others. Jimmy Fallon channeled Eddie Vedder to express his thoughts on Lin in song. Alex Rodriguez offered up his apartment to share if Jeremy needed somewhere to crash.

However, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream gets the Jeremy Lin fail of the day, after they had to remove fortune cookies from their "Taste the Lin-sanity" frozen yogurt flavor. Feeling the inclusion of the cookies was in poor taste, Ben and Jerry's has since apologized and changed the recipe.

Pete Weber won his fifth US Open Bowling championship this weekend, but more important, he performed one of the most insane celebrations ever. This is surely the greatest bowling victory outburst since Big Ern dropped Roy Munson.  Weber nailed a strike for the win, and while a strike is pretty sweet, it doesn't explain why he was wearing sunglasses indoors.

Derrick Rose is going to make 200 million bucks for wearing sneakers. Adidas and Rose inked a deal that's one of the richest in sports endorsement history. The 23-year-old Chicago Bulls superstar is set to earn the dough over the next 13 years, and you can bet Adidas will be hoping for a few things between now and 2025.

Manny Ramirez is back with a big-league club and is already proving he's a putz. This tweet from Manny's new teammate Brett Anderson pretty much says it all: "Manny just asked if I was the video coordinator...our relationship can only go up from here."

The ever-amusing Ramirez can be partially forgiven for not recognizing Anderson since the two had not met before—but come on, the dude's got a career 3.67 ERA. He deserves a little respect.

Also Manny, most of your co-workers walk around with their names on the backs of their shirts.
