Manchester United Transfer Rumours: 10 Strikers Linked to Old Trafford

Manchester United are said to be looking at a host of different new striking options for the summer 2012 transfer window.

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are two of the best in the goal-scoring business.

However, even they cannot shoulder all of the club's goal load upfront alone.

The Red Devils are on the lookout this summer, as despite his recent new contract negotiations looking to have given him an extra year, Dimitar Berbatov is likely to take his leave allowing the door wide open for the next young star in the making.

Andre-Pierre Gignac

Since joining Marseille, Andre-Pierre Gignac rejected a possible move to Everton in the January transfer window, according to quotes from Caughtoffside:

The striker endeared himself to playing for a much bigger club in Manchester United:

However, his lack of proficiency in front of the net is not likely to help him make a transfer like that anytime soon.

Christiano Ronaldo

The former Red Devil has been linked back through multiple sources, including footballgossip, earlier this month.

With the Real Madrid winger thought to be pushing for an English Premier League return in the near futurem his old club is the destination he has been linked with.

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United and could have more in his future if he returns.

Alan Pulido

Tigres striker Alan Pulido has been labeled Mexico's next Javier Hernandez or "Chicharito," as he is nicknamed. With the success that Sir Alex Ferguson has had since signing the original, it is only right that he would be looking to sign the next Mexican striking sensation.

The Daily Mirror has linked Pulido to the Red Devils with a £4 million move for the youngster that has already made an impressive name for himself with his U20 national team.

Edinson Cavani

Napoli's Uruguayan striking star, Edinson Cavani, has been an encouraged target for Manchester United by the Serie A side's ownership, according to a rumor in Crunchsports.

Cavani has been in fine form for yet another season and is likely to be in the crosshairs of multiple major clubs in the summer, including Manchester United.

Leandro Damiao

Tottenham seem to be the front runners for the signing of Brazilian youngster Leandro Damiao, according to the Daily Mirror.

However, Manchester Untied also have had their names in the pot for the highly rated South American, according to reports by Totalfootballmadness.

James Rodriguez

Manchester Untied have been linked to one of South America's most promising youth players in Colombian James Rodriguez.

Caughtoffside has linked Sir Alex Ferguson with an interest in the youngster, who currently plays for Portuguese Liga side FC Porto.

Milos Krasic

It seemed like almost every major club was in the hunt for the Milos Krasic jackpot as the striker/winger was looking for a new home away from Turin and Italian side Juventus, where his career has stagnated.

However, the January transfer window came and went with Krasic going nowhere.

The Daily Mirror linked him with a loan move to Old Trafford not long ago but that never came to fruition for either side.

Eden Hazard

More of a winger than striker, but a forward linked to the Red Devils nonetheless, has been hotly tracked Belgian international Eden Hazard.

The youngster looks almost certain to join Tottenham, according to multiple sources, including the Guardian.

However, Manchester United also have an outside chance for the player as he has been linked to the club via Goal.com.

Fernando Llorente

Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente was linked with Manchester United back in March of 2011 by the Daily Mail.

However, with the interest being pressed towards him by both Manchester City and Tottenham, according to Tribalfootball, it is likely that United could re-energize their interest once more.

Demba Ba

Newcastle United's Demba Ba is also a likely candidate for a move to Old Trafford.

The Senegalese striker is second in the EPL scoring charts and his low buyout clause makes him a likely cheaper signing for a club of United's deep pockets.

The Daily Mail hinted at the possibility of Sir Alex Ferguson trying to lure Ba into the fold, and the player's agent also confirmed this in Sportsbyte.
