NBA All Star Game: Why Do Organizers Keep Inviting Nicki Minaj?

Clint EilandJun 7, 2018

As Kanye and Jay-Z would say, this ish is ridiculous.

Somehow, someway, after this years Super Bowl halftime show, Nicki Minaj was invited to do the opening songs for this years All-Star Game.

Did the organizers this year not watch the Super Bowl? Did they stick their head into the ground in the ensuing days and just say, "Well she looks like she could perform," and automatically invite her?

Look, I like Minaj as an artist, I think she has talent in the recording studio. But that's just it. In the recording studio. She should not be the one performing the ceremonies for anything besides her own concerts.

By this point, half of you either agree with me 100 percent and the other half would like to rip my head off. Both are reasonable options. But to those who disagree and are wondering why I don't like her as a performer, let me explain.

Opening and halftime shows are for entertainment, I know that. But that is the thing. People have to be entertained. If I can't stand to look at the person performing, then why should I be watching at all?

Another thing, Minaj just tries too hard. I admire her effort to be "different" and to be flashy, but multiple technicolor wigs in one set piece? Come on now.

It just looks odd on stage and sets a bad feeling for the beginning of the game. Except of course, if the organizers want you to be so disappointed that you can't wait for the game to start. In that case, they have succeeded.

Then again, the All-Star Game was never intended to have the focal point be the performances. Still though, shouldn't we have some decent entertainment?

I know, it's a stupid rant that is just a bunch of complaining. But don't tell me that we all aren't thinking it.
