NFL Combine 2012: Biggest Winners from Sunday's Action

Tim KeeneyFeb 26, 2012

The NFL Combine is quite overrated when it comes to evaluating talent, but that doesn't mean it's not important for prospects.

With one good workout, they can still improve their status in the upcoming draft quite a bit. Just take a look at what these guys did:

Chris Polk, RB, Washington

After a terrific junior season for the Huskies, Polk's draft stock was sky high. At best, he was being talked about as a Top 20 pick, but he definitely deserved that type of praise.

That just began the roller-coaster ride.

Polk was mediocre during the Senior Bowl, lacking both speed and explosion through the holes. Everyone said he was either out of shape or just flat-out slow.

Well, Polk proved the doubters wrong today, as he ran an unofficial 4.47 40-yard dash. He clearly doesn't lack that burst everyone was talking about, and he likely vaulted himself back into the first round as a prototypical all-around back.

Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Since the Yellow Jackets ran it 80 percent of the time this season (really), Hill wasn't able to put up any type of gaudy stats. OK, he averaged almost 30 yards per catch, so that's pretty gaudy, but he only had 28 total grabs.

Hill is certainly raw and has shown that he has a tough time getting separation, but he has tremendous size, good hands and—as he showed today—blazing speed.

Hill ran a silly 4.30 40-yard dash, which was easily the best time of the day. He could easily find himself as a Top 10 receiver being drafted in the second round.

Following in the footsteps of Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas as wide receivers from Georgia Tech doesn't hurt, either.

David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech

It appears that Wilson was easily the most impressive all-around running back today.

First up were the measurable drills. He ran an unofficial 4.40 40-yard dash, then he put up a vertical leap of 41". 41 inches! Can we get him in last night's dunk contest?

It wasn't just his numbers that stood out, however.

Wilson proved to be a solid, smooth route runner out of the backfield, displayed good hands and showed the ability to catch the ball fluidly in stride.

It was a very impressive day all around for the former Hokie.
