NFL Combine 2012 Results: Michael Floyd Solidifies Top-20 Selection with 40 Time
Eric BallJun 5, 2018
Michael Floyd has officially solidified himself as the No. 2 wide receiver in the NFL draft.
The speedster from Notre Dame blazed through the 40-yard dash, posting a 4.47 on Sunday (via ESPN). Floyd is in the running for the right to be the second receiver drafted along with Baylor’s Kendall Wright and Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina.
Wright registered a 4.61 and Jeffery skipped the festivities, so Sunday ended up being a gigantic win for Floyd. At 6’3’’ and 220 pounds, he has the prototypical size for a wide receiver. He put up 16 reps in the bench press competition, which were six off the top mark for receivers. While it’s not one of the best outputs, there are no concerns with his strength.
His route-running ability and incredible hands make him a shoe-in for NFL success. Before this weekend, Floyd was placed somewhere in the 15-to-25 neighborhood in the majority of mock drafts. But after today’s performance, you begin to wonder how high he can go.
The Buffalo Bills at No.10 are likely to lose Stevie Johnson to free agency. The Kansas City Chiefs may lose Dwayne Bowe and are a Floyd candidate at No. 11 and with the 12th pick the Seattle Seahawks certainly could use help at the position.
There is little doubt that Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon will be the first player taken off the board, but after that it’s completely up for grabs. The combine and each player’s pro day are the only remaining events to impress scouts.
Consider the combine a complete success for Floyd as he has officially separated himself from the rest of the field in the battle for No. 2.
