Daytona 500 Pole Positions: Danica Patrick Will Fail Miserably in Debut

David DanielsJun 2, 2018

Beginner’s luck is Danica Patrick’s only hope.

Patrick is set to make her NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut on Sunday in the 2012 Dayton 500. Fans shouldn’t expect much from the female phenom after what she has showed prior to the big race.

After crashing in the qualifier on Thursday, Patrick did it again on Saturday in the DRIVE4COPD 300 colliding with her own teammate Cole Whitt. The 29-year-old  didn’t exactly show composure after her latest wreck. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Jay Hark, she screamed into her team radio after the crash:

"

“What the [expletive]. He [expletive] hit me.”

"

Fill in the blanks yourself.

ESPN’s Terry Blount reported on the team’s tension after the race as Patrick’s crew chief Tony Eury said:

"

“We have to get everybody together and talk about it. She was angry. It's unfortunate. She and Cole will talk about it. We're all a team here.”

"

Just seven laps before the accident, Patrick told Eury that:

"

“I can't stress enough how blind we are when we're pushing. It's pretty chaotic out here.”

"

Starting 29th in the 500 isn’t going to make her life any easier either. Three out of the last five winners entered the race positioned in 32nd place or worse, but before that odd streak began, not a single driver starting after No. 19 had won since 1978. Because Patrick is in such a difficult position, she’ll be forced to drive more aggressively and with her recent crash history, finishing the race will be challenging enough, let alone winning it.
