No. 2 NFL Draft Pick Report: Redskins Ready to Offer Bonanza to Rams for RGIII

According to Howard Eskin of NBC 10 Philadephia, the Washington Redskins are prepared to offer a fortune to the St. Louis Rams for the rights to the No. 2 overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft in an effort to secure the services of Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III of Baylor, who wowed scouts today running an unofficial 4.38 in the 40 yard dash, the fastest time by a quarterback at the NFL Combine in over a decade. 

Eskin, via his twitter account, shared the following regarding the Redskins potentially moving up to snag the Rams No. 2 draft position: 

"Howard Eskin ‏ @howardeskin

I'm told by people within Redskins they are prepared to offer picks 1,2 and 3 this year, at least a 1 next year to move up to get RG3 at 2.

"

If true, it appears the market for Griffin is going to be absolutely exceptional.  With still two months until the 2012 NFL Draft, offers could become outrageous by draft day, theoretically.

There are at least two reasons to expect the Rams to reap a bounty in exchange for the No. 2 pick:

One, the new collective bargaining agreement created a team-friendly rookie wage scale that dramatically reduces the financial costs to trade up into the top five of the NFL Draft.  

Before, the salaries and incentives were so high that moving up was much riskier because a bust would hamstring a team's salary cap for years to come. 

Secondly, the immediate success of rookie quarterbacks Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers (who is often compared to RGIII) as well as Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals makes NFL teams feel that QBs can come in and excel quickly in today's passing friendly league. 

Washington has the sixth overall pick in 2012, the seventh pick of round two (No. 39 overall) and the sixth pick of round three (number 70 overall). 

It is interesting to note that Eskin says "people within Redskins" would be willing to give up all that and "at least a 1 next year to move up", which would have to be considered a terrific offer by St. Louis.  

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, however, it is getting more clear by the day that the No. 2 overall pick will indeed reap an amazingly bountiful harvest in exchange for the aforementioned draft slot.
