UFC 144 Results: Ryan Bader Defeats Rampage Jackson via Unanimous Decision
UFC 144 was supposed to be Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's triumph return to Japan.
Instead, Ryan "Darth" Bader was able to spoil the party for the former UFC light heavyweight champion.
Jackson was able to land some good shots in the first round, but his biggest move of the night came when he slammed Bader on his head midway through the second.
Although Bader was clearly rocked by the slam, he was able to score a takedown of his own and work some ground and pound.
The third round would feature much of the same. Bader continued to wear Jackson down with takedowns and ground and pound. Jackson tried his best to get up, but Bader proved to be too strong.
Jackson's nostalgia of slamming Bader and using the PRIDE entrance theme was not enough to pick up the win, as he lost by unanimous decision.
Bader has now won his second straight fight and perhaps the biggest one of his career. The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 winner has rebounded nicely since he lost two fights in a row to Jon Jones and Tito Ortiz.
Although Bader was down for a little bit, he rebounded nicely once he got Jackson to the ground. Jackson, on the other hand, is now at a crossroads in his career.
Jackson lost his title fight to Jon Jones despite being in the best shape he had been in in a long time.
Not only did Jackson lose this fight, he lost it in a place that was very special to him and came into the fight six pounds overweight.
Jackson's motivation has been questioned for years—it's no secret that he is not the same fighter he once was, despite showing a few glimpses in tonight's fight.
It may be time for Jackson to truly decide if he wants to continue fighting.
