NBA All-Star Game 2012: Who Should Be in the Dunk Contest Next Year?
Jeremy Evans walked away with the victory in tonight's Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. No offense, but who is Jeremy Evans.
Not many people know, and that is what was the main problem with this year's Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Tonight's contest was disappointing because of the lack of talent involved. I thought a lot of the dunks were cool and creative, but I want to see star players such as LeBron James and Blake Griffin throwing down these dunks. It was like watching a home run derby with bench players, or even worse a home run derby for pitchers.
Most fans seemed extremely disappointed by the dunk contest tonight, and I don't blame them. It wasn't the faults of the players in the contest, but the faults of the players who were not in the contest, that made this event one that will not be very memorable.
If the NBA wants their dunk contest to be a jaw-dropping spectacle again, they need to get the stars back involved. Here are four players that fans would love to see in next year's edition of the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
Blake Griffin
1 of 4This video shows exactly why the NBA needs Blake Griffin to be in the dunk contest.
He is creative, talented and he tears down the rim with his sick jams. It was truly disappointing to not see the defending champion take part in the dunk contest tonight.
Griffin is probably the best dunker in the NBA, and fans across the globe want to see him participate in this competition. It would be especially awesome if we could get Chris Paul out on the court and see a little Lob City action from Paul to the big man.
Now that is what people want to see in a dunk contest.
Dwight Howard
2 of 4Dwight Howard and his alter-ego Superman need to be back in the dunk contest.
Howard first put on the Superman cape in the 2008 Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, and he made a return appearance in the 2009 version of the competition.
Where was Superman tonight?
Seriously, Dwight Howard you play for the Orlando Magic. Orlando was hosting the All-Star Game. Where were you?
Dwight Howard needs to be back in the dunk contest next year, and then we can maybe see which of the feared big men is a better dunker. Blake Griffin or Dwight Howard.
John Wall
3 of 4I have to give John Wall props for getting out and participating in the Skills Challenge tonight. That event was definitely fun to watch, since it incorporated a lot of the star guards in the NBA.
How about John Wall in the dunk contest?
Wall may not be known for rim breaking jams, but he is certainly known as a very creative and energetic guy. Just watch how he can Dougie.
Wall would definitely be a lot of fun to watch in the dunk competition, and I think out of the four players on this list, he is the most likely to be in the contest next year.
LeBron James
4 of 4When LeBron James gets by the basket all alone, get ready. The King is about to tear the rim to the floor.
LeBron throws down some of the hardest dunks in the entire NBA and would be an awesome sight to see in a dunk contest.
Another reason LeBron needs to be in the dunk contest is because he is the most popular or infamous player in the NBA. There is no other way around it. You either love LeBron and the Miami Heat, or you hate them.
It would be nice to see LeBron take off his ridiculous outfit he had on Saturday night, throw on his jersey, get out on the court and show some of these people how to throw down some slams.
