Cowboys Pull the Plug on Adam “Pacman” Jones, Release CB/PR

NFLGridironGabJan 7, 2009

The “Pacman” Jones era is Dallas is over.

After just one season in which the former Titans first-round pick was suspended for six games after getting into a fight with a team bodyguard, the Cowboys have released Adam “Pacman” Jones.  The announcement came today, but the transaction will not become official until February 9th, the first day NFL teams can make waiver requests.

He was somewhat of a non-factor for a Cowboys team that really could have used a play-maker in the secondary.  He put up just 4.6 yards per punt return, and didn’t record an interception.  He was the sixth overall pick of the Titans back in the 2005 draft, but after more off-field issues, was moved to Dallas for a fourth-round pick on April 23rd.

He got involved in the alteraction with the Cowboys bodyguard back on October 8th, then was suspended by the league for at least four games on October 14th.  In his first game back on December 7th vs. the Steelers he suffered a neck injury.  He played in the final game of the year vs. the Eagles, but never came even close to living up to what the Cowboys thought they were getting with the cornerback/punt returner.
