NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2012: Live Reaction, Recap and Analysis for Every Dunk

Kelly ScalettaJun 6, 2018

Are you ready for some dunking? We'll keep track of the dunk contest here. My opinion matters exactly as much as anyone else who has a twitter account, which is the beauty of this year's contest.

It's all going to come down to the tweets. So today, it's going to be the tweet  taste of victory for the lucky winner.

A quick preview though, for those who haven't had enough of them yet.

Chase Budinger has the best chance of getting the underdog vote. That's been popular in the past with the "little guys" like Spud Webb and Nate Anderson. Now, Budinger's not a "little guy" but he is a white guy. So if he has a spectacular dunk, look for him to pick up a lot of early buzz. If you need any evidence that America loves to jump on a bandwagon, see Jeremy Lin.

Jeremy Evans will be replacing Jeremy Lin—erp—Iman Shumpert, who was going to use Jeremy Lin as a prop to win. He'll be spectacular, but he'll end up fouling up a dunk too many times and it's going to cost him twitter votes.

Derrick Williams will have an absolutely thunderous dunk that we've seen about every dunk contest. If they determine these things by how much you shake the rim, Williams would win. But I don't see him doing anything that grabs the imagination.

Paul George is my favorite to win, in part because I think he's the most athletic of the group. This has traditionally gone to the player who has the most athletic, high flying dunks. I believe George has the most potential to do that.

Plus he promises a dunk we've never seen before according to the TNT broadcast. Something we've never seen! That would be refreshing if it's really something we haven't seen, and not just a new prop.

Although, I'll say JaVale McGee's three-balls-in-one-hoop dunk from last year was pretty novel. A fat load of good it did him. I wonder if he would have won with the tweet votes.
