NBA Trade Rumors: Suns' Superstar Steve Nash Does Not Want to Leave Phoenix

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Steve Nash does not want to leave the Phoenix Suns, and even though I may not get his decision, I completely respect it.

It would make sense if he wanted to be traded to a contender, especially with all that he's done for the Suns' organization.

He's nearing the twilight of his career, but he would still have something left to bring to a team looking for a point guard. Not only that, but it would make sense for the Suns as well, as they could really use some new young pieces and/or draft picks, as well as a new face and direction for the franchise.

The Suns aren't going to win the NBA title anytime soon, especially with young teams like the Thunder and Clippers competing with them in the West, and potential matchups with the Bulls, Heat, Knicks or Celtics in the East.

They just aren't good enough, and Nash knows that.

A trade would make sense on paper, but if he doesn't have the heart for it, it just won't work out well.

According to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic, Nash is committed to the organization and community:

"

"It's up to the team," Nash said. "I'm happy where I am. I'm not happy with our record. I feel like I made a commitment to the fans and my teammates. But at the same time, I'd understand if the team wanted to make a move, so I'm completely open. To be honest, I just occupy myself with trying to prepare to play and play as well as I can."

The Suns have made it clear that he would not be traded unless he asked for it. That is not in Nash's nature.

"I feel like it's a difficult position for me to demand a trade when I've been a part of that community for so long," Nash said in his 10th Suns season. "I really feel like I owe it to my teammates to do the best I can for the group. I don't feel like I should be demanding anything."

"

The Suns cannot trade Steve Nash, even if they'd want to.

This is a team that could really benefit from getting some young pieces or draft picks, and eventually they will have to move away from Nash. Now is not the time for a potentially ugly split up though, especially since Nash is being so great about the situation.

If he wants to stay with the Suns, they should let him do so. His commitment is extremely rare and it's worth honoring.

Not only that, but it's not like he can't play anymore.

Eventually the time may come for the Suns to move Nash, but for now they need to bite the bullet and recognize his dedication to the organization.

Nash wants to remain with the Suns, and unless that changes, I would expect him to finish out his career in Phoenix.
