Islanders Place Rolston on Waivers, Recall Ullstrom

Mike BlazowskiJun 7, 2018

The Islanders have placed Brian Rolston on waivers and recalled David Ullstrom.

Ullstrom is having a stellar year in Bridgeport, quite opposite to the year Brian Rolston is having on the Islanders, where he's totaled four goals and five assists in 49 games.

It seems likely that he'll clear waivers, as not many teams are looking to acquire someone who wont really help out.

Rolston was part of an offseason trade, in which the Isles hoped to bring some veteran experience into the mix with some secondary scoring. While the experience was there, just about none of the scoring was.

Ullstrom, on the other hand, had 19 goals and four assists in 32 contests with the Sound Tigers, and two goals and four assists with the Islanders in 14 games.

This is no doubt this is a move to shake up the offense on the team and get some more production. Although one must wonder if Rolston was canned for having nine points on the season, what is Reasoner still doing here with his five assists in total for the season?

This next road trip will be make-or-break for this team's playoff run, and they can't always rely on the goaltender to bail them out of every game. Unless they can find some offense and play smart defense, it's going to be hard to make up the six points they need in the standings.

At this point, whether or not they'll see the postseason is in the hands of the players.
