UFC 144 Predictions: What Ryan Bader Has to Do to Defeat Rampage Jackson
Competing against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in the PRIDE legend's old stomping grounds of Japan, Ryan Bader will have a chance to make a huge statement with a win at UFC 144.
Possessing a very similar style as Jackson, Bader will have to put together a solid game plan to come away with a victory on Saturday night. In order to upset Jackson, Bader will likely have to:
- Stick and move
- Take Jackson into the later rounds
- Secure takedowns
The power in Jackson's hands present danger for any of his opponents. Considering Bader was recently rocked by a short uppercut from Tito Ortiz, he will likely want to stay off Jackson's range and avoid getting into wild exchanges that could leave him unconscious via a "Rampage" left hook.
Missing weight by six pounds on Friday, Jackson may have had a rough weight cut that could impact his conditioning in Saturday's fight. Whether that is the case, Bader would be well-served to test Jackson's conditioning with a fast pace in the second and third rounds of the fight.
Also, it's no secret that Jackson is weakest when forced to fight off his back. It's not an easy task to take Jackson to the ground, but Bader will have the chance to break Jackson quickly if he is able to take the fight to the ground.
Though he comes from a wrestling background, Bader often prefers to stand in his fights. Against Jackson, it will be important for Bader to switch things up and return to his wrestling base.
