WWE Update: Rey Mysterio Reveals When He Expects to Return
In a recent interview with WDFN radio in Detroit (h/t PWTorch.com), Rey Mysterio gave the latest word on when fans can expect to see him back in a WWE ring.
Specifically, the "619" superstar makes mention of the fact that, although he's still rehabbing his knee, he is aiming for a return at WrestleMania 28.
And when asked what his function at the event would be, the San Diego native surmises he would either be a participant in the proposed Money in the Bank match or in a bout against Sin Cara (supposing he's also ready by then).

It's worth noting that Mysterio's urgency to return by April may be rooted in a report alleging that WWE officials have been disappointed in his oft-injured status and stubbornness in contract renewal negotiations.
If such is the case, it would be unfortunate if Mysterio is expediting the process of his rehabilitation at the cost of his long-term health in order to placate WWE management.
That being said, the masked superstar may also be motivated by the exorbitant paycheck that involvement on the biggest card of the year would bring him.
Assuming he does return to active WWE duty within the next month, the Money in the Bank ladder match—as he alluded to in the interview—would be an effective way to spotlight his talents. Also, since he would be only one of eight individuals, there wouldn't be undue pressure on him to carry the spot-heavy spectacle.
Another capacity to highlight Mysterio would be to revisit the unfinished business he has with fellow Latino Alberto Del Rio. As members of the WWE universe recall, it was the Mexican aristocrat who put Mysterio out of commission on the Raw after SummerSlam 2011.
Seeing the perseverant plucky underdog return from injury to exact revenge from his assailant would be a feel-good story befitting of the WrestleMania setting.
Best of all, because of the preexisting backstory between Mysterio and Del Rio, the company would be able to reignite their rivalry in mere minutes—even if the "West Coast Pop" star makes it back with one Raw to spare prior to the WWE's showcase extravaganza.
All speculation aside, we'll soon find out what awaits Rey Mysterio.
