BCS Title Game Preview: Tim Tebow's Faith Bigger Than Any Accolades

Sayre BedingerJan 7, 2009

First of all, I would like to publicly announce that Utah should not be in this game, despite all of you homers who think they could hang with either of these teams.

I personally am not a fan of the BCS system, but in 2009, they got it right.

Florida has been absolutely dominant since losing to Ole Miss, and Oklahoma's record setting offense has jaws dropping all across the country.

A game that features two Heisman winners in OU's Sam Bradford and Florida's Tim Tebow will take a backseat to none.

Criticize if you must, but I believe the Florida Gators will win this game for one reason, and one reason only.

Look closely at Tim Tebow's eye black.  It reads from left to right, "Phil 4:13", which is short for Philippians 4:13.  In the Bible, that verse simply states, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to imply that the Oklahoma Sooners do not have any men of faith on their team, but Tim Tebow has exemplified that faith from the moment he put on that Florida Gator jersey.

Despite the fact that Tebow has every bragging right available, he has stayed humble.  He knows how good his team can be, and he knows how good he himself can be, but he never flaunts his stuff like he is the BMoC.  A man who deserves all the credit in the world humbly distributes it to all of those around him, and most importantly to God.

Usually, you don't expect the leader of a team to be a home-schooled, strong Christian quarterback.  The stereotypical quarterback of Tebow's standing would probably be an arrogant jerk who doesn't give autographs or thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread.

Not Tebow.

“I am fortunate to have family members, coaches and teammates around who can help me stay focused on the right things for us to be successful. For me, every day includes four things: God, family, academics, and football, in that order," Tebow said.

Football, the fourth priority on his list, and yet he dominates every time he puts on the pads.  What a great testament to the type of leader Tebow is, on and off the gridiron.

Not a bad idea for a team to rally around a guy who head-butt's his special teams teammates, and nearly runs out on to the field after every defensive stop.

So here we are, on the eve of the biggest game of the college football season, where all of Tim Tebow's doubters will watch, and cheer for Oklahoma just because they can't stand to see Tebow shred yet another defense.

Then again, maybe after reading this article you won't.  Maybe after reading this article, you will have developed a new found respect for number 15.

Give Sam Bradford all the credit in the world, he has led the most potent offense in NCAA Football history.  He deserved to win the Heisman for his accomplishments on the football field this season, and I'll bet Tim Tebow will be the first to tell you that.

Although he was accepting of not winning the Heisman trophy, as Vince Young showed us three years ago, it is a chip that one carries on his shoulder, no matter how big of a smile they put on their face.

Tim Tebow's faith and passion for the game are why I will personally be rooting for the Gators to win Thursday night's BCS National Championship game.

If you want to see a man carry himself in a way that garners the utmost respect of his teammates, coaches, and peers, tune in to see Tebow and the Florida Gators take home their second National Title in three years.

"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."

Tim Tebow, believes it.  Do you?
