Jeremy Lin: Stefon Diggs Crosses Line with Racist Tweet About Knicks Star
Jeremy Lin's race is becoming a bigger story than his play on the court.
Joining the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Jason Whitlock, Stefon Diggs is getting in on the inappropriate action with his offensive comments about the New York Knicks newest star on Twitter.
"Everybody need to get off Jeremy Lin egg roll and dumplings he's good though .
— Teamdiggssssdsss (@Marseanbaybee) February 23, 2012"
For perspective, Diggs posted that Kobe Bryant was "all of it." A fan responded that Lin was, in fact, all of it. In true teenager fashion, the highly-touted college football recruit gave his pearls of wisdom on the situation.
Since when did it become okay for things about race to just be posted or talked about in such a cavalier way? Are some people really this ignorant to think that talking about someone's race or saying something about Lin's "egg roll and dumplings" is funny or clever?
Social media is a great tool for interaction, but it does a lot to show you a person's true colors. Someone like Diggs, who is in a unique position as an 18-year-old, should think twice before just typing something to get back at a fan.
People that use Lin's race as a reason to bash him need to take a long, hard look at themselves and who they really are.
With the exception of Mayweather, who has shown a history of racism in his rants against Manny Pacquiao, Whitlock and Diggs are supposed to be championing the effort of an athlete who has captivated the nation.
Diggs made an idiotic comment that he thought was funny. Guess what? It's not. If you think that Kobe Bryant or LeBron James or any other player is better than Lin, just say that. No one would have a problem with that.
But when you have to throw out the dumplings and egg rolls, it just shows how stupid and out of touch Diggs really is with what is going on. Trying to save it by saying that Lin is "good though" does not suddenly wash away what was written before it.
Next time you want to type something on Twitter, Stefon, put down the computer or cell phone and think about what you are going to say.
