Chris Paul: Los Angeles Clippers Star Smart to Plan for Future in L.A.

Eric BowmanJun 1, 2018

Chris Paul has decided to remain with the Los Angeles Clippers for next season, and even though he would have garnered a ton of attention as a free agent, the elite point guard is making the right call.

According to NBA writer Matt Moore of CBSSports.com, Paul was doing an interview with Jim Rome when he confirmed he was going to opt in for 2012-2013 with the Clippers.

He said it didn't take long to make his decision, which indicates that he really loves what is going on out west. The Clippers are building a strong team, and Paul knows that if he sticks around, the team will stay at a high level.

Currently in first place in the Pacific Division and third overall in the Western Conference, the Clippers are headed for big things this season.

Paul could always change his mind, but that appears doubtful since the Clippers are doing so well right now. The roster can be further improved during the summer if Paul does indeed stay, which would help make the Clippers a team to fear in the Western Conference.

They're already intimidating, but given how they handled things in this shortened past offseason, don't be surprised if the Clippers make big moves again to strengthen the roster.

Los Angeles is serious about winning, and keeping Paul around will greatly help it achieve that. Since the other Los Angeles team is typically the one that thrives, Paul has the chance to carry the Clippers to greatness and turn into the biggest star in Hollywood.

Of course, Kobe Bryant will have much to say about that, but if the Clippers keep winning, then his talk will diminish. The best way for the Clippers to stay ahead of the Lakers is if Paul remains on the squad, and it looks as though that will actually happen.

The Clippers made a huge trade for Paul, hoping things would pay off. Everything is going well, as the Clippers are legitimate contenders in the Western Conference. The future is bright for a franchise that has struggled a lot, which is why Paul is smart to stick around for another year to see what else the Clippers can do.
