NFL Combine 2012: Confidence Will Make USC Star Matt Kalil a Scouting Favorite

Adam WellsJun 3, 2018

Matt Kalil is the best offensive lineman in this year's NFL draft class, and he knows it. He isn't afraid to take on any challenge that comes his way, or one that he asks for.

According to Pro Football Talk, Kalil is making a statement this week, with the way that he talks and carries himself. Kalil is quoted as saying:

"

I would definitely say I am the best tackle in the draft.

Confidence is definitely a big part of your game. I think they want to hear that you do think you’re the best tackle, and I think I am.

(Playing special teams at USC) was definitely something I wanted to do. I volunteered for it. As an offensive lineman, you don’t get any fame. You’re not scoring touchdowns. So blocking a few field goals, that was more than enough for me. Especially at Utah, blocking a field goal to win the game, that’s probably the highlight of my college career.

In addition to his physical attributes—which are outstanding already at 6'7", 300 pounds—and natural ability on the field, Kalil is going to win a lot of fans in Indianapolis by showing that he will do whatever he must in order to help the team.

Playing in the NFL can be about finding a versatile player who is willing and able to take on different challenges.

With Kalil stating that he wanted to take on extra responsibility in college and, presumably, being able to do it in the NFL, talent evaluators are going to fall in love with him. He is not being cocky, he's just stating what he believes to be true.

The scouting combine is going to be Kalil's playground, and he just happens to be letting others get in on the action.

In a draft that is loaded with talent at the skill positions, Kalil will be the first offensive or defensive lineman taken. He is going to start right away and will be a fixture at the left tackle position for the next decade, wherever he goes.
