Celebrity All-Star Game 2012 Roster: Kevin Hart and Surprise MVP Candidates

Adam WellsJun 6, 2018

One big part of NBA All-Star Weekend is the celebrity game that takes place on Friday night as the unofficial start of the festivities. It is a great chance for film and television stars to showcase their unique athletic abilities.

At the end of the day, the game is all about having fun. With Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant coaching the respective teams, it is hard to imagine this game being taken too seriously.

The MVP award for the game can be won by anyone. Just last year, Justin Bieber took the crown with a surprising eight points and four rebounds.

With that in mind, here are the surprise MVP candidates for the 2012 Celebrity All-Star Game.

Kevin Hart, Comedian

Being a grown little man isn't an easy thing, and it's even worse when you are trying to showcase your skills on a basketball court. That is precisely the reason that I expect Kevin Hart to be in contention for the MVP trophy.

Since he is so small, he will sneak up on people. He can just lie in the weeds, lulling his opponents to sleep before stopping and popping a three-pointer. Then another and another and another until no one knows what to do.

Hart may not have the size advantage coming into this game, but in a worst-case scenario, he can have everyone rolling on the floor laughing.

J.B. Smoove, Comedian

How many All-Star games can say that they have Trucky from Pootie Tang ready to compete for an MVP award?

Smoove, who is probably best known as Leon on the awesome HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm, is going to get some sympathy from the opposing team because he is 47 years old. They will look at him and worry that his bones could break if they touch him, so that will enable him to attack the basket.

If they end up on opposite sides of the spectrum, it would be great to see Hart and Smoove go one-on-one in a comedy face-off to determine who is the best.

Doug Gottlieb, ESPN Anchor

Gottlieb's annoying analysis on ESPN and ESPN Radio might turn people off, but he will take the floor in this game to show the world why he led the nation in assists at Oklahoma State.

Never a great shooter, Gottlieb is going to have to rely on his teammates to actually put the ball in the hoop if he wants to have a chance at walking away with the MVP trophy.

Not everyone is a fan of Gottlieb's. He has an attitude and arrogance about him that rubs people the wrong way, which could put him at a disadvantage, but if he is the best player on the floor, well, you have to give the devil his due.
