Jeremy Lin and Tim Tebow: How the Dynamic Duo Can Benefit from One Another

Amid all the comparisons of Jeremy Lin to Tim Tebow, Lin has reportedly been talking to Tebow on the phone.

But, what's more important than the comparisons is what the two polarizing figures can gain from one another.

“They’ve spoken over the telephone. Jeremy’s been a fan of Tebow’s for a while, but only recently were they able to connect...His comment to me was that Tim is a really great guy and that he’s very inspired by him," Adrian Tam, Lin's former chaplain at Harvard, told People magazine.

It was only inevitable that the devout Christians would get together, as they are two of the more popular athletes in their respective sports. They've both experienced the criticism and hysteria, and have become almost synonymous with the NBA and NFL.

The comparison between the two isn't entirely accurate. Tebow was arguably the greatest college quarterback to ever play the game, while Lin was hardly even recognized in college. Some would also say that their abilities are different. (Lin fulfills his role as a distributing point guard, while Tebow still has trouble as a pocket passer.)

But, they both can gain a lot from talking with one another.

Learning to deal with the hype is one thing Lin and Tebow have to master. Lin has admitted that the buzz surrounding him during his torrid stretch has been a bit overwhelming at times. Tebow said things in a similar vein when he led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs this past season amid "Tebow Mania."

In that sense, they both have someone to talk to when experiencing the same things. That can't be understated. Having the support of your friends and family is great, but having someone who has gone through the same experiences is extremely valuable.

Confidence is also a big thing for Lin and Tebow. Tebow has already endured plenty of critics. Lin will undoubtedly see his fair share as he continues to be the starting point guard for the New York Knicks. Remaining true to themselves is key in staying focused and not letting the outside world distract them as they try to become better players.

In being fairly similar individuals idealistically, Lin and Tebow can share that confidence—even nurture it—creating a barrier of sorts from their critics.
