Takeaways From Night 1 of the NHL Draft

Nash is one of the league's best pure scorers and would benefit from playing alongside more talented teammates than have been provided to him with the Columbus Blue Jackets. As you'd expect, there's no shortage of teams interested in the dynamic winger.

One team that could use his instant offense more than other playoff hopefuls is Toronto. The Leafs are in an extremely tight battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Nash's contributions would be enough to make sure they get over the hump and back into the postseason.

Best Fit: Toronto Maple Leafs

Ales Hemsky

Hemsky tends to get overlooked since he plays for the Edmonton Oilers, but when he stays healthy, he produces at a high level. His excels as a playmaker, having totaled at least 40 assists three times in his career. He can also be trusted in his own end.

The Kings could use an all-around player like him to complete their lineup for the stretch run. Los Angeles has some terrific talent up front, but lack depth. Hemsky would provide that and more for another team fighting for its playoff life.

Best Fit: Los Angeles Kings

Derek Roy

It's been a season to forget for the Buffalo Sabres after entering the year with sky-high expectations. One reason for the team's struggles has been the uncharacteristically sub-par play from Roy, who is usually in the point-per-game range.

The Blackhawks, who currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference, could really use another center behind Jonathan Toews. Roy would seem like a perfect addition. He has plenty of big-game experience for a potential playoff run.

Best Fit: Chicago Blackhawks
