Dwight Howard Trade Rumors: Superstar Foolish to Continue to Respond to Rumors

Alex KayMay 31, 2018

Dwight Howard is doing anything to help curb the growing sentiment against him that he is a player that wants to star in a big market but could care less about winning.

He continues to field and answer questions about the trade hoopla surrounding him—which he created—and where he could possibly end up before the March 15 deadline.

The Orlando Magic center also feeds into the hysteria by giving love to fans of other teams that chant his name in opposing arenas.

Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York reported that the New Jersey Nets fans’ outpouring of support humbled Howard and their “We Want Dwight” chants got his attention.

"

"I just have fun with it. It's a humbling experience," Howard said. "I wish more people can see how it feels to go into another arena and have big faces and posters, it's a humbling experience. It's a blessing. I've been to every arena and it feels good to have a great reception, not only here but everywhere I go. And like I said, it's humbling and I really appreciate it."

"

When addressing the press after the game Wednesday night, he prefaced everything he said by stating, "Right now, my only concern is winning games, playing as hard as I can every night and leading my team.”

He should have stopped there. Just shut his mouth and said no more questions or at least none relating to a trade or different cities.

That’s what a truly great superstar who seriously only cares about winning would do.

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that Dwight just wants to be loved in Brooklyn or Dallas or Los Angeles and doesn’t care about capturing a title.

He just wants more people screaming his name and more signs and posters with his name on it in bigger arenas.

The superstar center needs to realize that might work fine in the short-term, but fans will turn on you if you can’t make a playoff run and quit on your teammates when things aren’t going well.

Dwight seems like a good person, but he needs to figure out that winning is what brings lasting respect and love in this league, not just playing for a large market and putting up solid stats.
