2012 NFL Draft: Four Quarterbacks Rising Up Draft Boards
With all the talk of Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, you'd think there weren't any other quarterbacks entering this years draft. However, there are some very talented QBs hoping to get their shot in the NFL and show out at the NFL Combine as their stocks continue to rise.
Brandon Weeden
In the latest mock draft Weeden is selected by the Chiefs in the second round. Maturity is not likely to be a problem, considering the fact that he's 28 years old (no, that's not a typo). He is the same age as the reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers. He's not the most agile, but he has proven he is a solid quarterback and is a big reason for Justin Blackmon's likely top-five selection. One of the better throwers in this class, Weeden will look to impress the coaches on Sunday in hopes of continuing to move up on that draft board. However, if he is selected to the Chiefs he would be competing with Matt Cassel.
A competition he has a good chance of winning.
Ryan Lindley
San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley is flying under a lot of people's radar. Standing at 6'4", he's one of the taller QBs in the draft and hopes that will give him an edge come April. A three-year starter, Lindley has had plenty of on-field experience. He threw for over 2500 yards in all three years as a starter and is not afraid of the moment. He would be very fortunate to step in the NFL and start right away, but don't be surprised if you hear his name a little bit down the road.
Jacory Harris
I like to refer to Jacory Harris as a poor man's Robert Griffin III. However, that's really not giving him enough credit for the kind of the player that he is and has the potential to be. His athleticism alone has enabled him to rapidly climb the draft boards after a somewhat shaky season in Miami. Although he's rated the 23rd highest QB out of 127 entering the draft this year, NFL scouts see a lot of potential in such an already supremely talented young man. As he continues to mature, Harris will continue to improve his simple mechanics and learn how to run an NFL offense.
He could definitely be a star in the years to come.
Brock Osweiler
He's 6'8", he has the ability to look over his linemen and see the field, and on top of all that, he's deceptively athletic. With a lot of marquee quarterbacks choosing not to throw at the Combine this weekend, Osweiler could steal the show. You can't teach height, but you can teach mechanics, and he's got both. He can throw the deep ball and he just might end up the third quarterback selected on April 26 if he can show out this weekend.
