Jeremy Lin Shoes: Linsanity Hits Its Apex With Nike's Plan for Lin Kicks

Well, Linsanity has officially reached its peak—Jeremy Lin is going to be getting his own Nike shoes and is getting an extension with the company.

He's officially made it.

Now, the athletic company that helped turn Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Charles Barkley and Kobe Bryant into marketing superstars is poised to do the same with the 23-year-old undrafted free agent, according to the New York Daily News.

Nike is reportedly extending and expanding its endorsement pact with Lin—to stop him from being stolen by rival athletic sponsors, according to Beijing Business Today. The Swoosh is also planning a signature Lin shoe in the Knicks' blue and orange colors, ESPN Radio reported last week.

I firmly believe that Lin is going to become a very solid point guard in this league, especially if he and Mike D'Antoni can stay together. But unless the New York Knicks go out and win a title this year and Lin goes off in the playoffs Dirk Nowitzki style, "Linsanity" isn't going to heat up much more than this.

I mean, once you have the shoe, it isn't hype anymore. Once you get the shoe, you've gone from being a fad to being a cultural icon.

Has an athlete ever blown up this quickly? Lin was on two straight covers of Sports Illustrated; he's become fodder for late night talk shows; he has a freaking shoe!

If Beyonce and the ladies want to put a ring on it, the ultimate goal for players in the NBA is to reach the place in their career where they can put a shoe on it. No, I'm not going to apologize for that analogy, and yes, it is one of the ultimate symbols of stardom in the game.

Don't expect Lin the basketball player to slow down anytime soon. Just know that "Linsanity" can't get much crazier than this.
