Tennis: 5 Greatest Ballboy Moments Since 2011
There is no doubt that ballkids in tennis tournaments do not get the credit they deserve.
However, there are rewards that they receive other than just being on the same court as professional players and celebrities.
Sometimes the players get involved with the ballboys, whether it be teasing them or interacting with them in an interesting light.
The ballboys that have performed at a given tournament for a while and have much experience and talent get showcased on the better matches, which often receive international television coverage.
Here are the five most enjoyable and/or memorable moments of the ballkids starting from last season.
Honorable Mention: Ouch!
1 of 6Well, that has to hurt a lot! The ballboy (seen in the top right corner of the video) can at least be thankful that the serve did not come off the racket of Ivo Karlovic or John Isner.
5. Delpo Is Down a Set—Why Not Have Some Fun?
2 of 6I still have no clue why Juan Martin del Potro did this, but it certainly was quite humorous and brought a new light to the already good match.
He also displayed great feel with the ball, even if he was not hitting it.
4. The Infamous French Open Dispute
3 of 6The ballboy assumed the point was over and essentially made a big mistake.
The umpire followed the guidelines and rules by calling a let on the point, when, in fact, Murray had no chance of chasing down Troicki's overhead winner.
Moral of the Day: Always wait until the ball bounces twice or into the stands, and remember—it isn't over until it's over.
3. Great Stuff from Novak Djokovic
4 of 6This is just wonderful to see from a player so prestigious and talented.
He treats the ballboys like people and not like puppets in a match, something many players are guilty of doing.
This puts a smile on my face, and it hopefully will do the same for you.
2. Supreme Touch
5 of 6Roger Federer is known to have great feeds to ballboys during matches (check the next slide for reference), but this one match was very special.
He made many nice "passes" to the receiving ballboys and gave them their little bit of fame as well.
1. Number One Wide Receiver Pick in the NFL Draft?
6 of 6This speaks volumes about both Federer's precision and aim and the increase in talent that ballkids have as the tournament progresses and the matches get more serious.
