NFL Combine 2012: Workout Warriors Who Will Get Undeserved Draft Boost

Wes ODonnellJun 1, 2018

The excitement from the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine gets underway tomorrow, but workouts won't begin until Saturday.

Draft stock can make or break in Indianapolis and players begin training for every test they'll face the minute their regular season concludes.

While physical workouts are only part of the process, they're largely the most important for teams.

Some players, although with great skill on the football field, can unfortunately shine in shorts and t-shirt but falter in pads and a helmet.

We like to call those kids "workout warriors."

Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

This is all about speed. The Hurricanes running back is reportedly running in the sub-4.3's in the 40-yard dash right now and that will send his stock sky high.

Miller possesses good enough size to excel in the NFL and has great overall athleticism. He's been consistently inconsistent throughout his career though, and even dropped off late this year.

The running back position has be devalued in recent years, but teams have a soft spot for ridiculous speed.

If Miller dominates the 40 and shows off in other events it will easily drive him up on the board.

Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

The 5'10", 185-pound senior is a phenomenal athlete. He was a former basketball player at Baylor before focusing solely on football and has transferred those skills to the gridiron.

He's quick, elusive and can jump too.

His 40-yard dash speed is the major question mark, but he'll answer that and then some.

But he's still got a lot to learn about excelling as a wide receiver and not just a field-stretching threat.

Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

Has the UNC senior made a tackle yet?

Brown is quite possibly the best athlete in this entire draft class, but he may not even be the best linebacker on his own team.

He's a shade under 6'2" and weighs in under 236 pounds. Essentially, Brown is playing linebacker in the body of a big safety with impressive athleticism.

He'll shine in every workout, but he's far from a complete football player.
