Peyton Manning Rumors: Ron Jaworski Is Wrong, New York Jets Are a Terrible Fit

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

Many have been connecting non-existent dots and claiming that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning would best fit with the New York Jets.

ESPN's Ron Jaworski joined the chorus on Monday when he came out and claimed that Manning was definitely done in Indianapolis, and that the best fit for the four-time MVP would be with the Jets.

I whole-heartedly disagree and think a move to New York would be an absolute disaster for Manning.

The Jets are coming off a terribly disappointing 8-8 season during which their locker room completely fell apart. The franchise also has a ton of money locked in to a disgruntled wide receiver in Santonio Holmes, who no one on the team seems to like, and who turned in a lackluster season in 2011.

For a guy who talks really big, makes a ton of money and is a disruptive force behind the scenes, a 51-catch, 654-yard, eight-touchdown season like the one Holmes just finished is awful.

Meanwhile, New York had the league's 22nd-ranked rushing attack, averaging just 105.8 yards per game. I seriously doubt Manning wants to step on to a roster in turmoil that doesn't boast a go-to receiver or a solid running game.

Manning will have plenty of attractive options available to him if the Colts release him. He has no need to enter such a volatile situation.

While the Jets might be interested in the 11-time Pro Bowler, I sincerely doubt Manning will even give a second thought to moving to the Big Apple unless they offer him a monster of a contract. I don't see any scenario in which that happens, given how much money they have invested in current quarterback Mark Sanchez.
