Daytona 500 2012: Kenny Powers' Brief Sponsorship Great for All Parties
NASCAR and HBO's Kenny Powers are teaming up for the Daytona 500 weekend, and it's going to be a huge hit for everyone involved.
The successful comedy show, Eastbound & Down, wins big for getting great publicity at the biggest racing event of the year, and NASCAR also gains from this because it's something fans will certainly love.
Those who don't know about the show will have an interest in it because Kenny Powers' face will be all over T.J. Bell's car. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if Powers, played by actor Danny McBride, showed up in Daytona for the big races this weekend. Too bad they probably won't let him drive, though, because that would fantastic. Then again, that might not end well.
According to SportsProMedia.com, HBO will be the main sponsor for Bell's No. 50 Chevrolet at the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.
It may only be a Nationwide Series race and not the main event on Sunday, but it's still a win-win.
Make Motorsports co-owner Mark Beaver talked about how having Powers' face on the car is good for them.
"It's been a whirlwind of activity in the last few months as Make Motorsports prepares for its first full season in the Nascar Nationwide Series. Between our new crew chief Mark Zakalowski and our partnership with Gulfcoast Software we are really building our team up to a high level. And what a way to get started to have HBO chose our team to expose its hit show ‘Eastbound & Down’ to Nascar fans.
"
It's definitely a stunt, but an awesome one at that. It's only for this weekend's race, so don't expect to see Powers' face all season long. If you want to, then just watch the show.
The logo on the car is rather questionable, but I'll let you judge for yourself.
And here's the back.
I'm sure Bell is hoping Powers' awesomeness rubs off on him and he wins the race.
