Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Da'Rel Scott posted the best 40 time in the Giants 2012 draft class when he ran a 4.34. That blazing time was good for first among running backs and tied for second in the entire combine.
Bench Press
The Giants drafted another one of the combine's top performers in Marvin Austin. Obviously, Austin is strong not fast. He racked up 38 reps at 225 pounds, good for second in the combine behind super freak Stephen Paea who put up 39.
2010
40-Yard Dash
The fastest player in the New York Giants 2010 draft class was Chad Jones out of LSU. He didn't have much competition as the Giants drafted four linemen and a punter that year. Nonetheless, he ran a 4.84 which is respectable.
Bench Press
The Giants drafted Jason Pierre-Paul in 2010 so it may come as a surprise to many that he wasn't the top combine performer in the Giants' draft class. Surprisingly it was Mitch Petrus who placed first among all participants with 45 reps. The fifth-round draft pick saw limited action last season but will begin to get more playing time if his strength is any indication of how he will turn out.
2009
40-Yard Dash
The top performer in the Giants' 2009 draft class is none other than Andre Brown out of North Carolina State. Wait who? He's irrelevant now but he showed some promising speed when he was drafted.
He ran a 4.49, good for fourth among all running backs.
Bench Press
Giants' third round pick Travis Beckum put up 28 reps to lead all tight ends in the event. It's shocking that Beckum can bench more than Will Beatty, who the Giants drafted a round earlier.
2008
40-Yard Dash
Kenny Phillips ran a 4.48 in a slow draft class for the Giants as Mario Manningham and Terrell Thomas both disappointed with their poor 40 times. At least all three of those guys are still around.
Bench Press
Fifth-round pick Jonathan Goff out of Vanderbilt accumulated 28 reps at the NFL Combine, the highest in the Giants' draft class. He had little competition though as the Giants drafted three wide receivers and a quarterback.
2007
40-Yard Dash
Aaron Ross and Steve Smith finished dead even at 4.44 seconds at the 2007 Combine. That's all the time Smith will get in this story as he is akin to Benedict Arnold.
Bench Press
Maybe the biggest surprise on this list is Zak DeOssie who led the Giants 2007 draft class with a mere 26 reps in the bench press evaluation. He's been a good special teams guy over the course of his career.
