NFL Combine 2012: Complete Combine Schedule of Events
The 2012 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off today in Indianapolis, as hundreds of college football's top athletes gather to be poked, prodded, tested, and scrutinized in an effort to boost their stock heading into April's NFL draft.
They say you can't tell the players without a program, so here's a look at the schedule of events for this year's combine, as well as something to watch for each day.
Wednesday, February 22nd
Kickers, offensive linemen, special teams players, tight ends: Registration, orientation, hospital pre-exam and X-rays
What to Watch: The first day of the combine is a pretty slow news day unless you're into watching kickers check into a hotel, so for one more day at least you can go ahead and spend some time with the family.
Thursday, February 23rd
Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers: Registration, orientation, hospital pre-exam and X-rays
K, OL, ST, TE: Interviews, media, medical exams, measurements, psychological testing
What to Watch: It will be interesting to see what sort of shape the big uglies show up to Indianapolis in, especially some of the larger guards such as Cordy Glenn of Georgia.
Friday, February 24th
Defensive linemen, linebackers: Registration, orientation, hospital pre-exam and X-rays
QB, RB, WR: Interviews, media, medical exams, measurements, psychological testing,
K, OL, ST, TE: Interviews, NFLPA meeting, psychological testing, bench press
What to Watch: All eyes on Friday will be focused on the measurables of the skill position players, such as the weight of South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery or the height of Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore.
Saturday, February 25th
Defensive backs: Registration, orientation, hospital pre-exam and X-rays
DL, LB: Interviews, media, medical exams, measurements, psychological testing
QB, RB, WR: Interviews, NFLPA meeting, psychological testing, bench press
K, OL, ST, TE: Workout (40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, shuttle run, position drills), departure
What to Watch: On the first day of workouts it will important to keep an eye on the performances of players such as Iowa State offensive guard Kelechi Osemele and tight end Dwayne Allen of Clemson, who could boost their draft stock into the first round with a strong showing.
Sunday, February 26th
DB: Interviews, media, medical exams, measurements, psychological testing
DL, LB: Interviews, NFLPA meeting, psychological testing, bench press
QB/RB/WR: Workout (40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, shuttle run, position drills), departure
What to Watch: Sunday will likely be the most-watched day of the combine as the offensive playmakers take the field, but keep an eye on running back Chris Rainey of Florida, as the 5'9", 174-pound speedster is widely expected to turn in one of the fastest 40-yard dash times in Indianapolis.
Monday, February 27th
DB: Interviews, NFLPA meeting, psychological testing, bench press
DL/LB: Workout (40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, shuttle run, position drills), departure
What to Watch: There will be goings on galore on the defensive side of the ball Monday, with the highlights being the speed drills for such linebackers as Luke Kuechly of Boston College and the strength and agility displayed by defensive linemen such as Quinton Coples of North Carolina.
Tuesday, February 28th
DB: Workout (40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, shuttle run, position drills), departure
What to Watch: It's all about the need for speed with defensive backs, so all eyes will be focused on the 40 times turned in by cornerbacks such as Janoris Jenkins of Florida and Trumaine Johnson of Montana.
