Andrew Luck Combine: Elite QB Foolish to Throw at NFL Draft Workout

Andrew Luck may throw at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine after all, but it's in his best interest to forget about that and just compete in the other drills. 

The Stanford QB has much more to lose by throwing in front of scouts this week. If he excels, nobody will think anything of it because that's what he's expected to do.

However, if he completely flops, it will create a lot of buzz as to whether or not Luck is truly the best QB in the 2012 NFL draft class. 

According to ESPN's Joe Schad, Luck's QB trainer George Whitfield said, "Luck is prepared to throw in Indianapolis and would perform well if he did throw."

Bob Kravitz of the Indianapolis Star reported that the Colts advised Luck to throw only at his pro day. That is the smartest move he can make right now.  

If he were to throw at the combine, it would open the door for potentially failing, which is something Luck doesn't need at the moment.  

It's perceived that Luck is the best prospect in the draft, but by throwing at the combine he puts himself in a position to be scrutinized because every eye will be on him, watching his every move.

Since he's the heavy favorite to be the top pick, scouts will be looking for any excuse to pick him apart.

Throwing only at his March 22 pro day is Luck's best option. The last thing he needs is to be out-shined by other QBs at the combine. 

Luck gains virtually nothing by throwing in front of the scouts this week. There's no need to risk his draft status because he wants to try and remind everyone he is the best. 

He has long been considered the best, so let everyone keep thinking that for as long as possible. There's a slim chance that Luck falls flat on his face at the scouting combine, but the possibility of it happening is there, which is why Luck needs to avoid throwing later this week.
