Davonte Neal Chooses Notre Dame: Why He Made the Right Choice
Davonte Neal has committed to Notre Dame over Arizona. Many will debate how this announcement was handled, the selection process, Neal's recruitment and of course his ultimate decision to join the Irish.
I'm here to shed some positive light on the situation and to give you a couple of reasons as to why he indeed made the right choice. You may disagree, you may get upset, or heck, you may even see it my way.
No matter how you feel on the issue, come take a peak at why I feel Neal made the right choice.
More Exposure in South Bend
1 of 5Thanks to a person television deal with NBC, Notre Dame might be one of the most recognizable teams in all of sports. With the national media focused in on its program, Neal will get an excess of exposure.
Arizona on the other hand may not even be the top program in its state. That title may very well belong to Arizona State.
More Talented Roster
2 of 5Notre Dame has seen Charlie Weis recruit very well and now Brian Kelly has continued that notion. When you compare ND's roster to Arizona's, the Irish win hands down.
You always want to surround yourself with other talented players, and while Arizona's roster is not lacking talent, it's not nearly as deep with 4 and 5-star recruits as Notre Dame.
Better Tradition
3 of 5You've got Touchdown Jesus, the golden helmets, the green jerseys, Friday night pep rallies, striped endzones, the Legend of the Gipper, Notre Dame Stadium, the fight song and the infamous "Play Like a Champion Today" sign.
Enough said.
Not to mention all of the great past players in Notre Dame history.
Better Chance to Compete for BCS Bowls
4 of 5Notre Dame is not in a conference and has an at-large berth into the BCS when it meets certain, yet easily obtained criteria. So a chance to go to the BCS is a lot easier here, especially with the Irish having good talent on their roster.
Arizona is not competing for a national title anytime soon folks. That's the stone cold truth. The Wildcats are going to have a hard time beating USC and Oregon in the Pac-12 and are an average program at-best right now.
Neal is a competitor, so choosing Notre Dame was the winning choice.
Degree Goes a Long Way
5 of 5Having a degree from a university like Notre Dame is a good look for anyone, period. The Irish place a premium on their academic standards and requirements.
No offense to anyone currently enrolled or that has graduated from Arizona, but a degree from Notre Dame is more prestigious.
Neal won't play forever, so when he goes into an interview and his potential boss sees a Notre Dame degree on his resume, that will only help his chances.
