2012 NFL Draft: Where Will the Top Prospects Be in 2022?
This year's NFL draft class has brought lots of intrigue and promise for the future of the league. Mock drafts are flying left and right as experts predict where will these future stars will land but where will they be 10 years from now?
After Andrew Luck was selected as the first-overall pick in the 2012 draft, he has established himself as a top quarterback in the league. He has led the Colts to seven playoff appearances in 10 years and was MVP of the 2015 season. Luck has been great throughout his entire career. He has averaged 3,859 passing yards a game, along with 30 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions.
His career-best season came in his MVP season in 2015. He had 42 TDs to just nine interceptions and led the Colts to the Super Bowl.
Robert Griffin III has had an interesting ride in the NFL. After the Redskins traded up to the number two spot to grab the athletic quarterback, things seemed to have been turning around in Washington. After early injury troubles in his career, Washington traded Griffin in 2018 to the Los Angeles Jaguars for a future second round pick. Since then, Griffin has had plenty of success. He has helped build a playoff team in L.A. and won comeback player of the year in 2019.
His failures with the Redskins were due mainly from a lack of performance by his wide receivers. Now with the Los Angeles Jaguars he has a young core group of receivers with him and they have a prolific offense. However, with the retirement of Maurice Jones-Drew, the Jaguars will need to find another running back.
Outside of Andrew Luck, the best player from the 2012 draft has to be Matt Kalil. The Minnesota Vikings tackle was an instant success in the NFL. He helped Adrian Peterson win two rushing titles and became one the best offensive linemen in the game. He has made the Pro Bowl nine times and has been named All-Pro five times.
Justin Blackmon has done everything he can to carry the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs. He has had four 100 reception seasons and is a dominate force in the league. Unfortunately, Blackmon has only experienced the playoffs once but has shown is loyalty to the city of Cleveland by re-signing with the team in 2018.
For some reason, Trent Richardson fell to the ninth pick in the 2012 draft to the Carolina Panthers. What a mistake teams ahead of the Panthers made. Richardson has averaged 4.5 yards a carry for his career and has scored 93 touchdowns in his first 10 seasons. The threat of Richardson along with Cam Newton in goal line situations makes them almost unstoppable in that area of the field.
The quick rise of Newton along with Richardson has made the Panthers a top five offense in seven of the last 10 seasons. This has led them to five playoff appearances including a loss in the NFC championship game in 2015.
As the 2022 NFL draft awaits us, one can only imagine where they will be in 10 years.
