Davonte Neal to Notre Dame: 5-Star Athlete Makes Blockbuster Decision
Davonte Neal extended his decision as long as possible, but the skilled athlete has finally decided he will play college football for the Norte Dame Fighting Irish.
According to Inna Lazarev of FOX Sports, the 5-star athlete chose Notre Dame after a long day of thinking. He was supposed to announce earlier in the day, but he delayed his press conference.
Neal picked Notre Dame over Arizona, North Carolina and Arkansas.
Listed at 5'10", 175 pounds, Neal is sure to see action immediately, which is huge for the Fighting Irish because they're in need of playmakers.
As a senior in high school, Neal recorded 62 receptions for 1,113 yards, rushed for over 1,300 yards and scored 30 total offensive touchdowns.
Neal's blazing speed is what makes him so dangerous, so expect Notre Dame to get him the ball in space as much as possible.
He'll need to bulk up, but that isn't normally a huge concern for college programs. Look for Neal to be featured heavily in the return game, becoming the next freshman star to tear it up on the big stage.
The Fighting Irish put together a solid 2012 recruiting class, but the addition of Neal really puts them over the top. Prior to Neal, Notre Dame had only one 5-star recruit, according to Rivals.
Neal is capable of contributing in the secondary if need be, but because he is such an explosive player with the ball in his hands, Notre Dame needs to make sure he's given multiple opportunities on offense.
The class of 2012 is loaded with talented future stars of college football, and Neal is one of the select few that's sure to shine right away. The Fighting Irish had to wait a while, but Neal is definitely worth it.
